Cancer Support Scotland, has appointed a new CEO: Rob Murray

 

Cancer Support Scotland is delighted to announce the appointment of Rob Murray as our new Chief Executive.

Following an intensive and rigorous recruitment process with help from Aspen recruitment, specialists in Charity CEO appointments, it is Rob Murray we are welcoming aboard.

Rob will be starting mid December with Cancer Support Scotland and is ready to lead us into an exciting new chapter.

The trustees reached an unanimous agreement about who should be appointed to lead Cancer Support Scotland based on Rob’s experience in the 3rd sector.

Meet Rob Murray – Our New CEO

Rob started his career working with the Children’s Charity Children 1st pushing forward his passion for ensuring children and their families get the very best support. He worked within Scottish politics during the historic Referendum campaign and then in 2015 joined Changing Faces. Since 2015 Rob has been a champion for ensuring those with a visible difference get the support they need whilst campaigning to bring an end to discrimination. Rob is a proud board member of Voluntary Health Scotland.

Rob is a keen Scouter and is currently the Scottish Headquarters Commissioner for Community Impact. He provides support to Managers and Commissioners within the movement as well are running Scouting’s talent management programme. In 2019 Rob is taking a unit of 40 individuals from South West & West Regions to the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia.

Rob says: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead Cancer Support Scotland into their next chapter. The Charity has so much to be proud of and this is down to our hard working staff and volunteers who are a real inspiration.

“While huge advances have been made in treatment, the sad reality is that for many families, cancer is a disease that will play a major part in the life of their family.

Fond farewell to Madaline Alexander

We would like to wish Madaline Alexander, all the best in the future as she steps down as interim CEO.

Madaline Alexander is leaving Cancer Support Scotland to emigrate with her husband to be closer to her 2 children and 4 grandchildren who are already living in Sydney, Australia.

Madaline has been involved with Cancer Support Scotland for around 10 years, first as a volunteer therapist and counsellor, then 7 years as the Service Manager before finally taking on the role of Interim CEO over the past 9 months. During Madaline’s time Cancer Support Scotland has grown from 1 centre supporting around 400 people per year, to 16 centres supporting over 2,000 people per year.
