"To promote the care of cancer patients, their families and friends by providing emotional support to all"

WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
Counselling provides an opportunity for people to work towards living in a more positive and satisfying way. Undertaken voluntarily, it offers a safe, supportive and challenging environment for the client. The rights of the client to make his/her own decisions are respected, as is confidentiality between counsellor and client.
IS COUNSELLING FOR YOU?
Perhaps help is needed to face the changes caused by having cancer; perhaps relationships have changed because of its impact; perhaps there is little time for personal needs to be considered because of caring for others. Sometimes stress and anxiety of the present is linked to issues around cancer in the past. Tak Tent also offers counselling when life is disrupted by the death, from cancer, of a loved one.
WHO ARE THE COUNSELLORS?
Tak Tent counsellors are professionally trained people who hold an accredited qualification in counselling. All the counsellors work in a person-centred way and abide by the Code of Ethics of the British Association of Counselling and COSCA. All information is treated with confidentiality and not divulged without the express permission of clients.
IF YOU WANT TO USE THE SERVICE
You can call us yourself, or be referred by a Health Professional, Social Services or another agency. When you contact the office, briefly explain what kind of help you would like or if you would like more information. Your details will be taken and a counsellor will contact you to make an appointment to see you. Appointments are offered as quickly as possible, usually within two weeks.
