Kelpies walk to return in April!

This April is Head and Neck Cancer Awareness month. The Heads Up Awareness group are holding a light up awareness walk to the Kelpies to raise awareness and funds for Head and Neck Cancer.  The walk is a distance of 6K. The walk will begin at The Falkirk Wheel and finish at the 30-metre high horse-head sculptures that are The Kelpies. The Sculptures will then be lit up in burgundy and white (Head and Neck Cancer Awareness colours) for 3 days.

The funds raised by the Heads Up Awareness walk will help the lives of people who have been diagnosed with head and neck cancer, or their family, carers and friends. It will also help us to raise awareness of head and neck cancer in Scotland.

Heads Up is in association with Cancer Support Scotland and relies on support from people like you. You are helping to raise vital funds which allow us to continue providing support to patients of head and neck cancer.

8.30 am – We will meet at Cancer Support Scotland Centre to register, pin on your numbers and take some photos.

8.45am – We will board the bus (The Bus is free to participants and you can enjoy some entertainment from Singer/DJ Tommy Twigg) which will make the short journey round to The Beatson to pick up more participants and officially start the event.

9.00am – The bus will depart to the Falkirk Wheel.

10.00am – Arrive at Falkirk Wheel. There will be another opportunity for those people meeting us in Falkirk to register. There will also be more photos and some refreshments.

11.00am – The walk commences along the Forth and Clyde Canal.

1.00pm – Walk finishes at the Kelpies.

1.15pm – Refreshments, raise awareness, local press and photographs.

2.00pm – Kelpies lit up for 3 days in the Head and Neck Cancer Awareness colours.

3.00pm – Depart.

The main aim of the walk is to raise awareness, however, if you do want to raise money through sponsorship there is no minimum required – we just ask that you register for the event.
