Scotland’s Cancer Charity Launches new Strategy.

Scotland’s Cancer Charity are today launching a bold, 5 year strategy focusing on supporting the wellbeing of those affected by cancer across Scotland.

Cancer Support Scotland is celebrating its 40th birthday and as part of plans under a new leadership team, the charity has refreshed its brand in partnership with Denvir Marketing and released a 5 year strategy- ‘Here for your wellbeing’.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic the charity; who have been working on the ambitious strategy for over a year, engaging over 600 people including those affected by cancer, NHS staff, partners, volunteers and staff, felt it was important to highlight the work carried out on this piece of work whilst also providing some positive news in these challenging times.

The charity aims to improve the wellbeing, mental and physical of those affected by cancer and one route of doing this is through the introduction of digital support as well as support for siblings. The charity will also be pushing for the Scottish Government to ensure that wellbeing is at the heart of the next Scottish Government’s Cancer Strategy which was due to start being consulted on later this year.

Commenting on the launch of the strategy, CEO, Rob Murray said:

“These are challenging times however after looking at how hard my team and Denvir have worked on this I felt it was only right to launch. With over 260,000 people in Scotland living with cancer their wellbeing must not be left behind.

“As Scotland’s Cancer Charity we want to ensure the wellbeing of those across Scotland is supported and that is why we are calling for a decade of action in Scotland to help reduce inequalities and the impact cancer can have on someone’s mental health.

“COVID-19 has been very challenging for the charity, like many others we have seen a massive reduction in income however we have seen a whole strand of our new strategy put in place temporarily within a week and that is our digital & telephone support.

“I am very proud of the work the team have done and continue to do in supporting those affected by cancer in Scotland. We would welcome a discussion with anyone who can help us achieve our strategy.”

CEO of Denvir Marketing, Suzanne George said:

“Cancer Support Scotland has been ahead of its time since it was founded by Sir Kenneth Calman forty years ago.  Our time is now, as our society really starts to understand the importance of both wellbeing and the broader constituent of those affected by cancer.  It is a privilege to support Cancer Support Scotland and all its great work, this is a charity that is delivering real support where none is available and we look forward to its work becoming  part of the national health policy.”
